Welcome

Welcome to Pearson. We are about a century and a half old company. In that time we've found a lot of different kinds of things to do - build bridges, drill for oil, start airplane companies, light monuments in the world's great cities, but for about 100 years we've been publishers.

But today, we are all about what we call education in the broadest sense of the word, whether that is to help a child learn to read or to find a novel that opens new vistas for somebody who's in a remote part of the world, or helping a business person make a better decision because he's read the Financial Times. We do this in a lot of different ways, whether it's in a great book (words pressed on paper and bound) that we've known for such a long time, or whether it's using technology, social networking, gaming, to teach children math, all kinds of things that we think amount to great content that really stimulates people's minds.

And we do this all over the world. We have companies in most of the world's countries, certainly all of its regions and everywhere we're trying to do that same thing.

We try to be imaginative, we try to be innovative, all the time we're trying to think of the next new thing, what's the next new technology? How can we find a way to teach every single child in the world in his own way, at his own pace?

And what really sets Pearson apart is the thousands of people who work here, all feel we work for something larger than ourselves, a broader purpose and that inspires us. That broader purpose is to help people make progress in their own lives.

We have lots of projects around the world, all concerned in some way with literacy or with education, we're very proud of those. The people who work here in Pearson try to participate with their own time in those as well as our giving our money to them, and we think that does make us quite a special place.

So you're going to learn a lot about Pearson. I hope you like it, I hope you enjoy what we do and what we're like and who we are, and I hope you want to come back here time and again, because we think it's a great place.
